The New York Observer has been known for its salmon color (don’t you dare call it pink) since the late 80s. According to Capital New York, that’s about to change. Beginning in February, the Observer is ditching its salmon newspaper for the traditional white paper.
The reason for the change likely boils down to money. We know. You’re shocked. Apparently salmon paper is rarely used, thus it can be more expensive than white. Also, Capital claims that advertisers have never been that pleased with the way their ads look on salmon paper.
The Observer’s color isn’t the only thing changing. The paper is returning to a tabloid format, the logo is changing to be more “modern,” and arts and style sections are rumored to be added.
The worst part about the revamped Observer? The new logo won’t include sneaky trenchcoat guy. The Observer isn’t the Observer without sneaky trenchcoat guy.
