NY Daily News Staffers Take Buyouts

The moves begin.

Up to 24 New York Daily News staffers have taken the paper up on its buyout offer.

Daily News editor Arthur Browne announced buyout packages two weeks ago, citing “the economics of journalism” that are “brutalizing media organizations across the country and beyond.” Browne also explained that if not enough staffers took the buyout package, layoffs would be necessary.

It’s not yet known if all of the staffers seeking a buyout will be granted one. According to The New York Post, the number of total buyouts will be “very light.”
