New York Times Brings Phonics Fun to Downtown Los Angeles

As the New York Times continues to expand its coverage in Los Angeles–in an attempt to steal subscribers from the struggling LA Times–we can’t help but laugh at its occasional growing pains in getting acquainted with the region. We found this weekend correction of a recent story on Downtown Los Angeles rather amusing.

Clearly some pinche gringo at the Times was a little too hooked on phonics for his own good. The reporter obviously spoke to someone who pronounced Cesar with the proper Spanish pronunciation ‘say-zar,’ and jotted the name down phonetically.
