New York Leads The Recovery?

Unemployment rates for states in July 2009

Today’s report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) contains the news that New York State’s employment rate increased by .7 percent in July, for a net gain of 62,100 jobs.

New York’s unemployment rate is still three percentage points higher than it was in July 2008 (8.6 vs 5.4) but the situation appears to be getting better.

Other states adding jobs in July were Texas, Tennessee, Michigan, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.
