National Geographic Mines Archive for New Photo Book Imprint

As photographic archives go, it doesn’t get much better than National Geographic. Its archive encompasses 16 name collections and more than 10 million images—many of them, we like to think, of tussling zebras. Now the book division of the 120-year-old nonprofit organization is delving into that impressive archive with Focal Point, an imprint debuting this fall that will draw upon the archive and the work of distinguished photographers worldwide.

“Focal Point books are carefully chosen to showcase photography’s pioneers and its modern masters,” said Leah Bendavid-Val, director of photography publishing for National Geographic Books, in a press release.
