Muscle & Fitness Hers EIC Apologizes for Plagiarism

In lieu of a pair of recent posts credited to Mona Muresan, editor-in-chief of AMI's Muscle & Fitness Hers, there is now only this: [kickout id="1"] On Tuesday, Muresan took to the same website Community section where these items previously resided to offer an explanation and apology: It has come to my attention that some of the Community posts shared under my name were taken from articles on other websites. While I've been traveling, I enlisted the help of a freelancer who assisted me with my social media and I didn't know that these posts were plagiarized. I apologize to the Muscle & Fitness Hers readers, the writers of these original articles, the sites these were lifted from, and the bodybuilding social community. We hold editorial in high standards at our magazine and on our website and I will make sure this doesn't happen again. Thank you for your understanding and support of Hers. [kickout id="2"] The plagiarism committed by Muresan's hired hand was blatant. Here are two examples brought to FishbowlNY's attention. All underlining is ours and indicates word-for-word duplication. ITEM #1: "The Power of Mind Over Body” [Published late July] Here's the beginning of an April 7, 2014 nextavenue.org post by Lorie A. Parch: When it comes to getting fit, you're willing to change, right? Maybe you're up for joining a nearby gym, shelling out for a new pair of terrific running shoes or downloading an app on your smartphone so you can track the calories you burn up. But here's one thing people don’t think about changing when it comes to exercise: their mind. Yet that may be the shift that makes all the difference. "It doesn't matter how much you spend on a gym or how good your personal trainer is, it's really all about your behavior. And that's your mind over your body," says Jennifer Huberty, an associate professor at Arizona State University in the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion. From there, the freelancer switched to some verbiage identical to words found in a streetdirectory.com post by personal trainer and author Chris Crew. ITEM #2 - "How Do You Spend Your First Hour in the AM??” [Published early August] Here's the beginning of a lifewithoutpants.com November 2012 item by Matt Cheuvront: What’s the first thing you think about when you wake up? Going back to bed? Coffee? How about doing something amazing for yourself or for someone else? How about hustling to build your business idea? What about discovering a passion you never knew existed? Or maybe something as simple as being able to watch the sunrise? It’s no secret that the secret to some of the most successful entrepreneurs and innovative minds boils down to one thing: They wake up early... That first hour sets the tone for everything that follows. How are you spending that time? I’ve got a few suggestions to help you make the most of that (extremely important) first hour. 1. TREAT ‘YOSELF. And here's the start of the Muresan-bylined item: What’s the first thing you think about when you wake up? Going back to bed? Coffee? When Romanian native Muresan joined Muscle & Fitness Hers in 2011, this is surely not what she meant by her promise to cover "a broad range of subjects in a new and exciting way..." On the other hand, AMI is to be commended for working with her to publish an on-the-record apology.
