MSG Takes Knicks Coach Mike Woodson Out of Vault

The latest installment of MSG’s Vault highlights the career of Knicks’ coach Mike Woodson. The episode titled Hoosier to Head Coach, takes viewers to some rarely seen video in the MSG Network archives.

Thirty-two years after being drafted by the Knicks as the 12th overall pick of the 1980 NBA draft, Mike Woodson will start his first full season as New York’s head coach this fall. But his road to MSG started long before he heard his name called at the draft.

For this episode, MSG unearthed video from the 1979 NIT Championship at Madison Square Garden in which Bobby Knight and Woodson’s Indiana University Hoosiers defeated Purdue 53-52 – video that Woodson had never seen – as well as footage from the 1979 Pan Am Games team which was also coached by Knight and starred Woodson as the captain.

Al Trautwig hosts the program, which explores Woodson’s college hoops at Indiana, and his ultimate coaching process.

The Mike Woodson MSG Vault episode premieres tomorrow at 9 p.m.
