The New York Observer reports that Brides has laid off about a dozen staffers today, the third day in horrible news coming out of Condé Nast.
Although the additional layoffs at Condé are not surprising (and we’re likely to see more in the coming weeks), there is one piece of news in the Observer article we thought was of note:
“A source tells us that the employees laid off today received only two weeks severance for every year worked. (Compare that to employees laid off on Monday from Condé Nast who, thanks to the WARN Act, received three months severance.)”
So basically, since those let go on Monday were part of a “mass layoff” of more than 25 people, they automatically get three months’ severance. When we were laid off last year, we were also given two weeks severance for every year worked, although those who had worked there less than two years also received four weeks severance. If it worked differently today at Brides, let us know.
