More Cuts Coming At The LA Times

Earlier today the LA Times pressrooms’ union received a letter from management warning that more cuts were coming- and soon. The letter is posted in its entirety on the unions’ blog and reads “The Los Angeles Times has decided to take steps to further reduce its costs including, but not limited to, layoffs. Unfortunately, the pressroom will be impacted by this decision….Time is of the essence and the Company intends to implement the cutbacks no later than March 15, 2009.”

Who is left to lay off? The newsroom has only 660 staff members, down from 1,200 in 2001.
