Media Mogul Buys Up Competitors In Canada

Media mogul David Black will be buying several papers in British Columbia and Alberta, his company, Black Press, announced last week.

The move means that Black will now own papers that once competed with papers he owned, adding the the Trail Daily Times, Creston Valley Advance, Fernie Free Press, Grand Forks Gazette, Nelson Daily News, Prince Rupert Daily News and Cariboo Advisor to Black Press’s holdings. (Side note: those Canadians sure have hilarious newspaper titles, right?)

Black Press COO Rick O’Connor would not tell media whether the company planned to merge or close some of the new acquisitions.
