Radar reports that Dallas Mavericks owner, blogger and YouTube player-hater Mark Cuban is set to bid some $625 million to buy the Chicago Cubs from its Tribune Co. owners. According to “a source familiar with the matter,” Mark “is desperate to buy the Cubs. He wants this so bad.”
Hmm, wonder who Radar‘s “source familiar with the matter” is on this one. Could it be, oh, I don’t know, Ron Burkle [floating head below], the Los Angeles billionaire who may or may not have an $8 million interest in Radar but who definitely has an interest in buying Tribune Co., specifically the Los Angeles Times?
Or could it be, oh, Yusef Jackson, Radar‘s Chicago-based “official” investor who lost out on a bid for the Chicago Sun-Times and who has expressed interest in buying Tribune Co.’s Windy City-area assets? Either would have an interest in trying to spin a Cub sale — or, at the very least, intimate knowledge of who’s bidding on what.
Or perhaps the source is merely Drew Kerr, Radar‘s New York-based p.r. rep whose obsessive knowledge of National League baseball, specifically the Mets, is borderline unhealthy.
Inside baseball? Probably.
