On this date in 1988, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officers responded to a complaint of a dispute at the Malibu home of Sean Penn and Madonna. The incident has been thoroughly revisited this fall by attorneys for Penn in connection with a defamation lawsuit filed against Empire maestro Lee Daniels. From Richard Johnson’s weekend item:
The [LASD] deputies told Penn’s [legal] team there was no evidence the actor had assaulted his wife that night, a source said.
