Local news station NBC4 caught Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa violating the mandatory water restrictions currently in effect in Los Angeles. The new water laws – approved by the mayor – restrict sprinkler use to Mondays and Thursdays only. But, according to NBC Los Angeles:
During the past month at the mayor’s house, back yard sprinklers were running at 2 a.m. on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday — all in violation of the law.
Villaraigosa is not the only public official or agency NBC4 has caught violating LA’s watering law. Cameras caught Los Angeles City Fire Station No. 61 in July, and saw the sprinklers running at 7 p.m. nearly every night of the week.
“I think it’s outrageous the while the rest of us are expected to abide by these new restrictions, city agencies aren’t affected and can use as much water as they choose,” said Bob Cherno, who lives near Station No. 61.
NBC4 also caught Caltrans still running some of its sprinklers on LA’s freeways during illegal times. Sprinklers on the 134 Freeway in Toluca Lake were gushing two hours a day, seven days a week.
Meanwhile, my lawn is patchy and brown. Bastards.
