“It’s easy to describe. It’s just a black dot with a little bit of green at the bottom,” said Milton Glaser when asked to translate his latest graphic design project for radio listeners. “Either Earth is dying or it’s beginning to grow again. My preference would be that it was beginning to grow again, but for the moment I have no evidence of that.” Glaser appeared today on WNYC’s The Brian Lehrer Show to discuss “It’s not warming, it’s dying,” his new campaign to bring awareness to the potentially world-destroying force of what is best known by the rosy-sounding terms “global warming” and “climate change.” As for how the black-to-green gradient orb could stand alone, in the form of a button, and still convey the message, Glaser explained, “In the relationship between dark and light, there’s always something that people implicitly know.”
