Latest New Yorker Cover Puts Tourists in Their Place

“I was flabbergasted by the chaos of it all. You’re trying to get somewhere, but it’s impossible. It’s like salmon swimming upstream.” That’s how Bruce McCall described his recent brush with tourists, which lead to the above illustration for this week’s The New Yorker.

We loved when someone spray painted a similar version of the cover on the sidewalks back in May, and we appreciate McCall’s take. The only thing worse than tourists walking slow is when they stop at the top of the subway stairs.

McCall does admit that he isn’t “against tourists” because he — like most current New Yorkers — was one long ago.
