Judging a Non-Profit During the Job Search

As jobs at traditional media outlets continue to dwindle, non-profits have seen recent growth. They’ve come around to fill holes that traditional media outlets no longer have time/money for, like investigative reporting.

But judging which non-profits produce quality, independent journalism can be difficult. Jim Barnett from Nieman Journalism Lab has attempted to develop criteria that will aide in this vetting process. While his intention is to create a template for evaluating the quality of journalism at each non-profit, his criteria could help the job seeker decide which organizations have a legitimate journalistic platform.
