Jobless Claims Fall To Lowest Level Since August 2008

New claims for unemployment insurance fell to 421,000 last week, down 17,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 438,000, the Department of Labor reported today.

The four-week moving average, which is less volatile than the weekly number, fell to 427,500, or the lowest level since August 2008.

Meanwhile, though, seven states reported large (over 1,000) increases in claims for the week ended November 27, which is somewhat odd because the newly unemployed often wait until after a holiday to file for their insurance.
