Jobless Claims Continue Slow Slide Down
Weekly jobless claims actually inched up this week by 1,000, to 434,000 claims last week, but the four-week average slid further toward the mythical goal of 400,000, hitting 450,250. Extended benefits-collectors dropped by more than 70,000, too, so we’re calling this a “good week.”
Poor Pennsylvania saw its jobless claims for the Christmas week jump by almost 10,000, while California’s weekly claims fell by more than 20,000. (Y’all are a big state out thar.)
