This is pretty nuts. Per an item this afternoon on Roll Call, it turns out Jill Agostino, day editor at the New York Times D.C. bureau, went way above and beyond the call of charity duty during a late June Congressional Women’s Softball game. From Abby Livingston’s report:
“Heard on the Hill” has learned that the injury was far more extensive than initially thought — a torn hamstring — and Agostino is prepping for outpatient surgery…
Her captains repeatedly encouraged her to play only if the injury was not serious and to “not be a hero.” But she was a hero anyway and was crucial to the Bad News Babes’ win this year. She will be on crutches for about six weeks, per Gray Lady sources.
Yowser. This particular June 26 match between a team of DC journalists and members of Congress raised money for the charity Young Survival Coalition. It looks like Agostino is on Twitter but has not yet tweeted. Now might be a perfect time to start.
