Some, like breakingnews.ie’s Dave Molloy, felt the best way to go was a gallery of Jack GIFs. Others, including al.com’s Madison Underwood, have sparked up dialogue with readers, under what will surely be an oft-repeated headline: “We Can’t Handle the Truth…“.
All because of today’s exclusive report by Radar Online EIC Dylan Howard that Nicholson has quietly decided to stop acting. According to Howard’s source, the issue – or at least, one of the issues – is that it has become too difficult for Jack to memorize dialogue.
As one commenter on Radar points out, Nicholson could always go the Marlon Brando route and start using an ear piece on set. But somehow, given the unwavering commitment to the craft of acting that Nicholson has always displayed, that seems like a fallback he would never be comfortable with.
Fans are chiming in with their vote for favorite Nicholson film. The actor’s early 1970s output – Chinatown, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Five Easy Pieces, etc. – would seem hard to beat for overall artistic merit. However, one could make the case that more recent performances like The Joker and Nicholson’s version of Whitey Bulger stand taller in terms of pure, over-the-top theatrics.
At press time, there has been no confirmation of the Radar report from anyone officially connected to the actor.
Update (4:30 p.m.):
Maria Shriver did a little digging and insists that the Radar Online source is completely off-base. Nicholson, she says, has no current plans to retire.
