Idol Takes Weekly Top Spot, But Dancing Season Premiere Squeezes Into Number Two

American Idol found its way to the top of the weekly ratings in New York. The Fox talent competition scored with an estimated 2.1 million WNYW fans and a 10.5 rating for the two-hour performance show Wednesday, according to the Nielsen Company.

However, unlike most weeks, Idol did not grab the 1-2 punch atop the prime time survey. Instead, the season debut of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars bookended Idol broadcasts with a number two (1.9 million, 9.6).
