Friday Photo: Frog Design's Roller Skates

Before rollerblades were even a twinkle in our eye, frog design was redefining the roller skate. We discovered these “Frollerskates” (pictured) in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which acquired them as a gift from frog in 1988. With a ski boot-style outer shell of hard polyurethane and a removable leather inner shoe, these “marvels of high-tech design” were the talk of Popular Mechanics in December 1987, just as Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s Starlight Express was racing across the Broadway stage.
