Fresh Takes on Newsweek as the Sidney Harman Era Begins

In the week following The Washington Post Co.’s sale of Newsweek to audio-equipment mogul Sidney Harman, a few media pundits are piling on with their fresh takes on the future of the magazine.

The New York Times‘ David Carr compares Harman’s Newsweek purchase to a similar transaction, the 2003 sale of New York to Wall Street dealmaker Bruce Wasserstein. Carr observes that Wasserstein explicitly viewed his New York buy as a viable business investment, whereas Harman has said of his Newsweek adventure, “I’m not here to make money.”
