The NYT reports that the package called in turned out to be a “grayish canvas bag of the kind used to hold lunches,” filled with water bottles. Times Square has now been reopened to traffic and pedestrians.

Police evacuated Times Square today after finding a suspicious package in front of the Marriott Marquis Hotel, CNN reports.
