Fiscal Times Writer Goes Meta For Article About Working For Free

Everyone’s working for free these days, but nobody moreso than young journalists.

To investigate the phenomenon, The Fiscal Times’ Blaire Briody wrote an article about journalists who work for free—by using three free interns.

One dropped out after Briody failed to “offer…to introduce [her] to any of her editors or anything like that.” (To be fair, she never asked, Briody said.) A second blamed “limited Internet and computer access,” but a third put in 20 hours of work and covered an event in New York.

Ironically, this is the guy who didn’t want to be a journalist, but “after taking a few journalism classes as an undergrad, was ‘curious to learn what someone like you does.'”
