Family Raising Funds for Cancer Stricken 'Stand and Deliver' Teacher
Jaime Escalante, the celebrated math teacher whose efforts were depicted in the 1988 movie “Stand and Deliver” is fighting cancer and has run out of money for his treatment.
The Daily Breeze reports:
Vanessa Marquez, who appeared in “Stand and Deliver,” the 1988 film that dramatized Escalante’s experience at Garfield High, said in an interview on Fox 11 that so far $5,000 has been raised toward the $30,000 needed by the family.
The cast members of “Stand and Deliver” are putting together a fund raiser.
