So, yesterday evening I was having an IM conversation with my friend Laura Holder. It went a little something like this:
unbeige: quick blog related question for you,. had you seen the bahamas logo already?
laura: of course!
laura: how can one not? its everywhere on the subway.
unbeige: I never take the subway
unbeige: so I had not seen it.
laura: i’d even mentally planned on ‘blogging’ on it
laura: now i can just link to yours.
laura: where’d u see it?
laura: i guess they have TV ads now too
unbeige: I saw it on speak up
unbeige: God, it occurs to me as I talk to you that a) I never ride the subway
unbeige: and b) I rarely watch TV commericials because I have TiVo.
laura: yah me too
unbeige: so funny
laura: i didn’t see it on tv, but a fellow designer friend and i were talking about it
laura: probably on the travel channel or something
The thing is this, I live in the East Village and my gallery is down on Spring Street. I usually ride my bike down here (though not in this completely frigid weather.) So, I am one of those “never goes above 14th Street” people, borne of habit not snobbery. Well, that and I am lazy, which explains why my MUJI@MoMA Field Trip was to the Soho design store, not to the sparkly new art temple up on 53rd St.*
So, UnBeige readers, I need you to be my eyes and ears, underground on the Subway (who cares if the MTA is threatening to ban photography?) and on the streets, and not just here in NYC – everywhere. Use your cameraphone, or your Elph and send UnBeige stuff that catches your eye.
* I am going to the new MoMA soon. Field report forthcoming, I promise.
