Economy Stresses EAP Programs

A new study from Harris Rothenberg International (HRI) shows that employees are relying on employee assistance programs more than ever, Online Recruitment reports.

Calls to EAPs increased 10% in 2008, and HRI has found that employees are using the programs for financial advice and even “as a suicide hotline…about substance abuse…[and] for referrals to food pantries,” said Edward Trieber, managing director of HRI.

Turns out that the more anxious people feel about their jobs, the more calls they make to their company’s EAP—no surprise there.
