E! News Bungles Tom Cruise Scientology Quote
Right there, in both the headline and body text at press time, former Scientologist Amy Scobee is quoted by E! Online as saying that actor Tom Cruise is “viewed as a complete god” within the religion’s ranks.
Not so fast, responds CoS fact-checker extraordinaire Tony Ortega. After blogging that this did not sound quite right, the Village Voice editor was later able to confirm with Scobee via telephone that her words were taken out of context:
Amy says she was explaining the 2004 moment to a reporter about how Miscavige was trying to give the impression that Cruise, with all of his dedication, was like a god.
