Cuts Coming to Tribune Papers

Buyouts first, layoffs second.

Tribune Publishing—which publishes the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, The Baltimore Sun and more—is like most media companies these days: It’s looking to cut costs, and unfortunately that often means cutting people.

According to Poynter, the newsroom reductions will initially come in the form of buyout offers. The LA Times and several of Tribune’s other publications will be targeted. Tribune is looking to reduce editorial costs by $10 million, and to do that roughly 80 staffers might be let go.
