Cuts At WNEG As University Owner Brings In College Students

This has the potential to be an ugly, ugly story…the University of Georgia has shut down nightly news broadcasts at WNEG, the TV station it owns, laying off 12 full-time and five part-time workers in the process, reports OnlineAthens.

WNEG was an independent station in Northeast Georgia; it’s being converted from a private for-profit station into a public affiliate of the Georgia Public Broadcasting System.

The nightly news broadcasts, which had aired five nights a week, will be replaced by a student-produced show called NewsSource.
