Community Newspaper Holdings Inc Schedules Xmas Eve Furlough

Community Newspaper Holdings Inc, which owns over 100 newspapers across the country, needs one more furlough day to round out the year in order to avoid more serious fiscal problems.

The company, David Brauer reports on MinnPost’s BrauBlog, scheduled the mandatory furlough for Christmas Eve. Brauer says this is a bad move because everyone’s paycheck will be “just a little lighter at gift-giving time.”

Well, yeah, but who wouldn’t be thankful for a full day to take care of last-minute shopping, cookie baking (for the budget conscious), and spending time with your family? The kids are all home on the 24th, so this actually seems preferred.
