CNN's Anderson Cooper Reportedly Most Searched Media Personality

New York based-Zeta Interactive has once again compiled its annual Most Buzzed Report of the media personalities who generate the intense online traffic. Using keywords and phrases online and on social media sites, FishbowlNY has learned exclusively that Anderson Cooper is number one. Cooper, already an established prime time star at CNN, started a daytime syndicated talk show in September. The additional workload may be a major reason why Cooper saw huge gains in this year's Zeta report, up from ninth place in 2010. The Daily Show's Jon Stewart is as steady as ever, holding at number two for the second straight year. Zeta Interactive CEO Al DiGuido says his company uses a specific algorithm to create the report. "It basically kind of jogs the most often used word," DiGuido says. The words or phrases that correspond to the personality are listed in order. For example, for Cooper, the most popular searched terms included "CNN," "Next," "Best Interviewer," and "Smart." More from the list after the jump. Others in the Top 10 Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report was number three MSNBC's Chris Matthews, host of Hardball was fourth, a six position jump from the 2010 survey. The Today Show's Al Roker was number five. Roker did not make the influential list last year. "It's interesting seeing in the midst of comedians, news people, and interviewers, you've got a guy who's a weatherman, and has been able to breakthrough as one of the most buzzed personalities," DiGuido says. Al's buddy, Matt Lauer who did make the report in 2010, drops three slots to sixth place. Bill O'Reilly, last year's top buzzed media personality, tumbled to seventh. The most common terms searched for O'Reilly---"Controversial." Barbara Walters slipped four spots to land at number eight. Fox News' Sean Hannity also went backwards, giving back four positions to number nine. The afternoon radio host, heard on 77 WABC, was most searched for "Commentary." Along with Roker, new to the survey is Charlie Rose. Last month, we reported that Rose, the venerable interviewer on his PBS long-running show, would be helming yet another revamping of CBS' The Early Show. The most popular searches for Rose ranged from "Smart" to "Boring." Two personalities failed to return from last year's list are MSNBC's Joe Scarborough (8) and Joy Behar (6) whose HLN show was recently canceled. She continues in her daytime job, co-hosting The View. Analyzing the data, DiGuido says more at play than someone being popular on TV to be successful on their survey. "Which personalities are on the rise in terms, not only their presence in terms of media world, but there presence in terms of the social media world," DiGuido says. "Their brand's rising ...beyond just broadcasting."
