CNN Expands New York Social Team

Ashley Codianni moved over to her new role at CNN as director of social publishing just last month. Today, she is sharing news of some extremely well-qualified reinforcements. Here's the memo: Hi all! Super stoked to introduce Sam Schlinkert and Masuma Ahuja, two new members of the growing social publishing team that has staff in Atlanta, New York, Hong Kong and London. They’re sitting on the 5th floor in New York, in the back, with the rest of the social TV team. When you see them, say hello! We’ll be making rounds. Sam comes to us from BuzzFeed, where he helped run and publish the news team's social media accounts, compiled regular social analytic reports and made GIFs for the site. He also worked on tools designed to make distributing content on social networks easier. Previously he was at Newsweek and The Daily Beast as a social media editor. Sam programs decent Ruby, recently purchased a third of a sailboat and is resolved to read more non-fiction. He is a graduate from Duke University (sorry Tar Heel grads) with degrees in economics and philosophy, and a recent graduate of The Flatiron School, where he developed two Web applications using both the Twitter and Facebook APIs using Ruby and Python. Follow him on Twitter @sts10. Masuma hails from the Washington Post, where she was the digital editor for the national politics desk. Her work has focused on finding new and compelling ways to tell stories using user-generated content on mobile and social platforms. She launched the Post's presence on Snapchat, Kik, YikYak, experimented with structured comments to capture the impact of policy on people and created a Tumblr powered by audio storytelling. Masuma was also part of the team that was awarded the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for coverage of the NSA. She has a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford. The CNN team assigned to social publishing, social discovery and social TV numbers around 30. In New York, where Schlinkert is on board as a social publishing producer and Ahuja has joined as a social Apps producer, the total staff is now 12. Both started on Monday.
