Clay Shirky Addresses NY Times' Future

Some ideas worth considering.

Clay Shirky, author, NYU professor and media critic, has some interesting thoughts on the future of The New York Times. Shirky shared them in an email exchange with Times public editor Margaret Sullivan, and the entire piece is well worth a read.

The Cliff Notes version of Shirky’s ideas:

  1. Get comfortable with the fact that print is going to die sooner rather than later.
  2. Cut more costs.
  3. Maximize mobile ad dollars.
  4. Charge more for whatever form of the print product that remains.
