Buyout Deadline Arrives for 'Sports Illustrated' Staff

Today marks the deadline of a different sort for Sports Illustrated writers and editors. As reported by The New York Post, they may volunteer for a buyout package.

Apparently Sports Illustrated group editor Terry McDonellinformed staffers that involuntary layoffs will occur if enough people didn’t step up to the plate to volunteer. This is all the result of McDonell aiming to trim an estimated amount of $3 million from the budget.

An insider revealed to the newspaper, “The buyout package is the same package you’d get if you were fired.”

The newspaper also indicated a big reorganization will likely take place after the layoffs.
