Buffalo News Seeks To Cut 20 Percent Of Newsroom

Management at The Buffalo News says the paper needs to cut $1.8 million out of its budget through wage and benefit cuts as well as layoffs.

That could translate to a 20-25 percent reduction in the newsroom staff, reports the Buffalo Business Journal.

There are 250 guild-covered staffers in the newsroom, customer service and classified ad departments, so a 25 percent reduction is no small amount of people.

The paper has also proposed cutting staffers’ paid holidays, lowering mileage reimbursements, and asking staff to pay for parking in the company’s lot.
