Starting next year, Brides is going bimonthly. The move appears to be a reaction to two factors: 1) Brides’ readers are moving online and 2) the print version has fallen on tough times (WWD notes that first half newsstand sales were down 26 percent).
To entice increased digital readership, Brides.com will be fully mobile, with revamped image galleries and interactive tools. Also, next spring, Brides will be supporting a “crowd sourced, publicly live-stream wedding on Facebook,” according to a release. Sounds romantic.
“This is the first time in Brides’ history that both the print and digital properties have shared editorial and business oversight and it’s given us the unique opportunity to evaluate our brand holistically,” said Michelle Myers, Brides’ vice president and publisher. “After extensive review of the marketplace it’s clear that bi-monthly frequency and a robust site provide optimal benefit to the consumer and will positively impact all areas of our business.”
The final monthly Brides will be in December. After that there will be a Jan/March winter issue. Brides goes bi-monthly effective April/May 2013.
