The Michael Bloomberg brand is alive and well on social media platforms, but when it comes to engaging with that world personally, the mayor exercises caution. The New York Times reports that during a speech in Singapore, Bloomberg told the gathered crowd that the sexy social media world is dangerous:
We are basically having a referendum on every single thing that we do every day. And it’s very hard for people to stand up to that and say, ‘No, no, this is what we’re going to do,’ when there’s constant criticism, and an election process that you have to look forward to and face periodically.
These are wise words from Bloomberg; the immediate feedback that social media allows is worrisome. It’s much easier to — oh, we don’t know, extend term limits and crack down on protestors — when you don’t have to listen to the general public’s blubbering about it.
