Bloglines Closes While Town & Country Seems Lonely, Plus Other News of the Day

- The rumored future head of the Tribune Co. Michael Eisner spoke to the Daily Beast today about his upcoming book "Working Together: Why Great Partnerships Succeed." In the talk, he gave some insight into how he might run Tribune if you make the leap that he's the likely option for the job. "In every business, in every industry, management does matter," said Eisner. "Some things in media are about who is running [it]. Some assets are managed well, some aren't. People do make the difference." So he's saying that he will be the difference in Tribune's success, right? Maybe, I'm reading too much into it. - A group of novelists and journalists are starting their own book collective. DW Gibson, Dale Peck, Lisa Dierbeck, Joshua Furst and the Awl creator Choire Sicha have launched Mischief + Mayhem. The rules are simple: No books will be printed unless they're sold or you can purchase an ebook version. "We're a publishing collective," said Gibson to the New York Observer. "The motivation is to reinstall a notion of editorial process that's all but vanished from the traditional corporate structure of publishing that's out there now." - Town & Country has seen significant cuts since new editor-in-chief Stephen Drucker entered the Hearst magazine's offices. He's reportedly cleaning house, and our sister site FishbowlNY confirms that art director Agnethe Glatved resigned and copy chief Jean Rodie was cut. That's in combination with letting go of three editors in the Art + Culture section. I understand cleaning house, but is there anyone left? - While it didn't seem like many used it, there were some loyal fans to the RSS feed Bloglines. But, sadly, its parent company announced today that it would close the news feed on October 1. And they're blaming Twitter for putting the last nail in Bloglines' coffin. TechCrunch's Leena Rao had the story: "Doug Leeds, President of Ask.com tells us that the reasoning behind closing Bloglines came down to the fact that the market for people who use Bloglines (and RSS readers, he adds) isn't growing, and is actually shrinking as people shift to realtime news streams such as Twitter to consume content on the web." That little birdy site doesn't seem so sweet now, does it?
