Although Billy Joel recently confirmed his decision to forego the biography-autobiography route, he will be returning to the fore with a vengeance in the new year. Per a live-streamed press conference this morning from Madison Square Garden, the entertainer will begin performing monthly concerts in January, for essentially as long as the public wants to buy tickets for them. The 2014 “franchise” performances will include a show on Joel’s 65th birthday (May 9).
The press conference, streamed live at 11 a.m. ET on the Internet and several TV channels, will be re-aired tonight at 9 p.m. on the MSG Network, with the added bonus of a Joel interview. Meanwhile, if you want to see how this morning’s big media event went down, search the Twitter hashtag #BillyJoelMSG.
The first four 2014 Joel shows are already sold out. Tickets for that big birthday bash ($82 to $145) go on pre-sale tomorrow to CitiCard members and general sale December 7 at 10 a.m. The May 9 performance seems guaranteed to feature one of next year’s most memorable NYC star-studded audiences.
