Audrey Cooper Named EIC of San Francisco Chronicle

She is the San Francisco Chronicle's first female editor-in-chief

Audrey Cooper 640Hearst Newspapers has promoted Audrey Cooper to editor-in-chief of the San Francisco Chronicle. Cooper is the first female editor-in-chief in the Chronicle’s 150-year history.

Cooper has been with the Chronicle since 2006. She joined as an assistant metro editor, and most recently served as managing editor. Under her watch, the Chronicle was a Pulitzer finalist last year.

Of Cooper’s appointment, Mark Aldam, president of Hearst Newspapers, said “Audrey’s news leadership at the Chronicle is emblematic of the future of all of our newspapers and websites: employ innovative storytelling to connect readers with the news and information that matters most to them.”

A search for a new managing editor to succeed Cooper is currently underway.
