Associated Press Keeps Making the News Cheaper

In an effort to keep newspaper chains from abandoning the Associated Press, the news network is reducing its rates yet again.

At a meeting on Thursday, the organization’s board of directors voted “to provide all member newspapers complete access to all AP text content, at no extra cost.” This will save $9 million in addition to the $21 million saved by earlier rate cuts.

Also, the board will review the membership process. Currently, paper’s must give a two year notice if they wish to opt out of an agreement.

Tom Curley, president and CEO of AP, discussed the changes in a statement:

“We fully understand the pain and the challenges of our members, and we have worked to address these concerns.
