Armory Show Selects Gabriel Kuri as Commissioned Artist for 2011 Fair

Gabriel Kuri, come on down—you’re the next artist commissioned to create the visual identity for the Armory Show! Mexican-born, Belgium-based Kuri, currently the subject of a solo exhibition at the University of Houston’s Blaffer Art Museum, is best known for his sculptures, collages, and installations of quotidian debris (supermarket receipts, found imagery, slabs of marble, poetically squashed energy drink cans). His work often addresses themes such as consumerism and temporality, as good a description as any for the frenzied environment of the Armory Show, which will run from March 3 – 6 of next year on New York City’s Piers 92 and 94.
