Annual Report On State Of Media Asks 'Will Future Leaders Of Journalism Please, Stand Up?'

The Pew Project for Excellence in Journalism released its annual report on the state of media. The results, as might be expected, were fairly dour, though one outlet offered a shining beacon of hope.

Newspaper ad revenue has fallen 23 percent in the last two years and, according to report findings, nearly one out of every five journalists working for newspapers in 2001 have left the industry. Local television news revenue fell by 7 percent, something unheard of in an election year.
