It’s the year of the woman! At least as far as the Magazine Publishers of America (MPA)is concerned. The MPA and the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) have just announced that they will be honoring Time Inc.’s Ann Moore and Martha Stewart with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Per the release:
Ann Moore has been named recipient of MPA’s Henry Johnson Fisher Award, in honor of Henry Johnson Fisher, founding publisher of Popular Science, which is now published by Bonnier Corp. Martha Stewart, founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, will be inducted into the ASME Magazine Editors’ Hall of Fame.

New York, NY (November 25, 2008) Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) and American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) will honor two magazine industry luminaries with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Ann S. Moore, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Time Inc., has been named recipient of MPAâ€™s Henry Johnson Fisher Award, in honor of Henry Johnson Fisher, founding publisher of Popular Science, which is now published by Bonnier Corp. Martha Stewart, founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, will be inducted into the ASME Magazine Editorsâ€™ Hall of Fame. The announcement was made today by Nina Link, President and Chief Executive Officer, MPA, and Sid Holt, Chief Executive, ASME. The awards will be presented at a special lunchtime event Thursday, January 29, 2009, at the Plaza in New York City.

ABOUT ANN S. MOORE
Ann Moore was appointed chairman and chief executive officer of Time Inc. in July 2002. In this position, Moore oversees the worldâ€™s leading magazine company. Time Inc. publishes more than 120 magazines, which are read nearly 250 million times worldwide on a monthly basis, and account for approximately 20 percent of total advertising revenues of U.S. consumer magazines.

A native of McLean, Va., Moore graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1971 and received her M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1978. She joined Time Inc. later that year.
Moore serves on the board of directors of Avon Products, Inc. and the Wallace Foundation. Her numerous awards and honors include her appearance on Fortune magazineâ€™s list of â€œThe 50 Most Powerful Women in American Businessâ€ for all ten years of its existence.
In 2003, Moore received the first annual Time Warner Civic Leadership Award, which recognizes the senior executive at the company who does the most to foster a spirit of employee volunteerism and corporate responsibility.
ABOUT MARTHA STEWART
Martha Stewart has always drawn inspiration from her surroundings. Raised in Nutley, NJ, in a family with six children, she developed a passion for cooking, gardening, and homekeeping in her childhood home on Elm Place. Her mother, a schoolteacher and homemaker, taught her the basics of cooking, baking, canning, and sewing; her father, a pharmaceutical salesman and avid gardener, introduced her to gardening in the family’s small but orderly backyard garden when she was 3.
While earning a bachelor’s degree in history and architectural history at Barnard College, Martha worked as a model to pay tuition.
