Alice Rawsthorn and the Return of the Ugly Magazine

In case you missed it yesterday, everyone’s favorite museum-director-turned-design-columnist, Alice Rawsthorn, once again took a quick break from the International Herald Tribune and moonlighted with a story in the NY TimesT Magazine, “Mag Hags,” which is all about “the new ugly” in magazine design. As she talks about early on, now that we’re well into a new decade, and following a trend of Neville Brody with The Face in the 1980s and David Carson‘s work with Ray Gun in the 90s, it seemed like it was about time for things to get a bit unsightly and weird again.
