Advance Publications' Patriot-News and Post-Standard Cut Back Publishing

This is how it goes: A smallish market newspaper can’t keep losing money, so it announces fantastic plans for its digital future. The website will be updated more! There will be more reader interaction! And so on. But behind those grand plans is the fact that the paper is cutting back publishing, which is just kind of depressing.

That’s just what is happening at Advance Publications’ Patriot-News and Post-Standard. Each paper has announced that they will be forming new business structures by combining their websites with the print side, and both are slashing printing schedules.

The Patriot-News, which covers Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, said it will now print three times per week — once on Sunday and the other two days to be determined.
