Russian Media Celebrate Photographer's Pulitzer Win

Sergey Ponomarev's freelance shots are part of The New York Times' victorious Breaking News Photography.

The nationalities of some of this year’s Pulitzer Prize winners is big news. In Burma for example, Esther Htusan, 29, is being lauded as the first winner from that country for her part in AP’s winning Public Service entry.

Another foreign-born 2016 winner getting patriotic ink is Russian photographer Sergey Ponomarev. Per a write-up on RT, his contributions to The New York Times’ Breaking News Photography citation continues an extremely impressive recent awards run:

The 35-year-old freelance photographer already won acclaim this year in the General News category at the World Press Photo Awards for his images of overcrowded boats of migrants arriving on the shores of Lesbos.
