2011 MacArthur Genius Fellows Announced

The MacArthur Foundation announced the recipients of its 2011 “Genius Fellows Program.” Winners get a no-strings-attached $500,000.

It’s good to be a genius.

Interestingly, Harvard has more geniuses than the entire state of California. The school had three fellows while California had only two. Los Angeles had no geniuses this year, but the Bay Area had two–including poet Kay Ryan, who may not live here, but did graduate from UCLA.

Also among the winners is Jad Abumrad–co-host and producer of WNYC’s nationally syndicated show Radiolab.
